Thread counts for bedding typically range from 200 to 800, though 1,000 and higher thread counts do exist. Thread count is not however, the most important indicator of quality bedding, more important is the quality of the cotton threads that the bedding is weaved from. You can have high thread count sheets made from poor quality cotton.
The most common constructions are muslin, percale, sateen, flannel, and knitted jersey.[4] In a plain weave the warp and weft cross each other one at a time. Sateen has multiple (usually 3–4) over threads and one under.[5]
For a luxurious, slinky feel to your bed sheets, cotton sateen is the ideal option. Look for a thread count of at least 300 to get a good-quality set.
